A Discussion of LGBTQ+ Representation, Activism, and Obstacles

Join South Washoe DEMS for a Social Soiree and meeting as we welcome Kimi Cole, 2022 candidate for Nevada Lieutenant Governor, who will lead a conversation with others on important LGBTQ+ issues. We meet in person at the South Valleys Library on Wedge Parkway. A Zoom option is also available. The meeting will conclude no later than 7:30 PM.

Invite a friend or neighbor to meet fellow DEMS and learn the latest LGBTQ+ issues in Washoe County.

As more than 520 anti-LGBTQ bills, including 220 targeting transgender and gender non-binary people, have been introduced in state legislatures across the country this year alone, it seems that the LGBTQ+ community is under attack largely to ignite hatred and political divisiveness. In contrast, Nevada’s Republican governor recently signed two trans protection bills.

Kimi Cole will share her powerfully honest, personal journey of gender-identity transformation and discuss how this relates to being a well-known, local political leader and seeking statewide office. Ms. Cole was the former chair of the Nevada Democratic Rural Caucus and sought to become the first openly transgender statewide elected official on her 2022 run for Nevada Lieutenant Governor.

Q & A Session will follow each speaker’s presentation, and questions can be submitted in advance by emailing: admin@southwashoedems.org.

Our meetings are a great opportunity to invite a friend, neighbor, or relative to meet fellow DEMS and learn more about our group and its good work in South Reno.  If you would like to attend the in-person meeting but are not able to do so, attendance by ZOOM is available.
