Join South Washoe DEMS at the South Valley Library for a Social Soiree and Education Conversation with local Leaders
Washoe County School Board President Beth Smith will speak on her role on the school board and share about some of the board’s current and upcoming initiatives. Ms. Smith represents District D in central Reno, works full-time at IGT, and is the parent of two young boys.
Washoe County School Board Member Joe Rodriguez represents District C. He is a long-time Northern Nevada resident, public servant, veteran, and parent. Mr Rodriguez will speak about his role on the board and challenges facing schools and families.
Washoe Education Association President Calen Evans will talk about his role, WEA advocacy work, and insights on current education legislation. Mr. Evans is the founder of Empower Nevada Teachers, a group that was founded to support teachers and school staff across the state of Nevada by building community and working to increase funding for K-12 education.
Q & A Session will follow each speaker’s presentation, and questions can be submitted in advance by emailing: admin@southwashoedems.org.
The April meeting is a great opportunity to invite a friend, neighbor, or relative to meet fellow DEMS and learn more about our group and its good work in South Reno.
